knitting in color
I made these two fair isle baby hats as Christmas gifts for my month old niece and a friend's baby. The white, pink and green one is for my niece and matches her baby fair isle cardigan, with a little bit of green added for contrast. I wasn't sure about the green at first but I love how it turned out and I love the graphic quality of the red and white one. I can't wait to see these on the babes. More details here.

knit swatches + christmas ornaments
I took a machine knitting class this fall and one of the things we learned was how to use the two color jacquard mechanism. Fun! I thought the swatches above looked rather Chirstmas-y in red and white, so I made ornaments out of them. They are backed with natural linen fabric and filled with wool batting and clovers, so they smell Christmas-y too! These are currently for sale in my shop. I'll be adding more soon.

hurricane sandy
Getting some knitting done while Hurricane Sandy blows through NY.
We were very lucky to have sustained no damage and no power outages. Our thoughts are with those who weren't as fortunate and are now dealing with recovery and rebuilding.

more beautiful knits
Images by Jared Flood for Brooklyn Tweed
Wool People Volume 3, just released by Brooklyn Tweed, is a collection of knitting patterns by guest designers. Julie Hoover nailed it with her Rivage wrap. It's perfectly nostalgic and modern at the same time, super simple and clean. The color choices are spot-on and the stripes are perfectly balanced. The other must-knit for me in this collection is the Fjord hat designed by Jenny Gordy of Wiksten.

On my knitting list: first up is Julie Hoover's Insouciant knit tee. This is going to be super luxurious and the perfect summer knit. Next, the Encadre cowl, also designed by Julie Hoover, is the perfect unisex cowl. And finally the Statis Pullover, designed by Leila Raabe, for Brooklyn Tweed's latest spring collection. This sweater is perfection - classic shape, perfect colorway and simple geometric honeycomb pattern.
